What is the best numbering system for electronic product's components?

in my opinion, if it was a date format. today is 10/31/2006


make it the yy/mm/dd/ # sequence....example, I have 5 pics i want to save... i would save them as '; 06103101, 06103102, 06103103, 06103104, and 06103105....it works good for me , it also keeps them in chronological order....I hope this helps
