I do not want the first three pages to be given page numbers and I need this to be one document. The first three pages are the Title page, the Cover Page and the table of contents. Then comes page one.I want to start numbering pages in a MSWord document using page 4 as page one?
copied from word help, see sction break.
bol.
If you haven't done so already, insert a section break (section break: A mark you insert to show the end of a section. A section break stores the section formatting elements, such as the margins, page orientation, headers and footers, and sequence of page numbers.) where you want to start page numbering.
How?
Click where you want to insert a section break.
On the Insert menu, click Break.
Under Section break types, click the option that describes where you want the new section (section: A portion of a document in which you set certain page formatting options. You create a new section when you want to change such properties as line numbering, number of columns, or headers and footers.) to begin.
Note If you have already inserted a page break (page break: The point at which one page ends and another begins. Microsoft Word inserts an ';automatic'; (or soft) page break for you, or you can force a page break at a specific location by inserting a ';manual'; (or hard) page break.) to cause a chapter to start on a new page, delete the page break and replace it with a section break that starts on a new page.
Do any of the following:
Start page numbering with 1 after the first page
For example, you can omit page numbers for the document's title page or introduction and then start page numbering later in the document.
Click in the section (section: A portion of a document in which you set certain page formatting options. You create a new section when you want to change such properties as line numbering, number of columns, or headers and footers.) in which you want to start page numbering.
On the View menu, click Header and Footer.
If you want to position the page numbers at the bottom of the page, click Switch Between Header and Footer on the Header and Footer toolbar (toolbar: A bar with buttons and options that you use to carry out commands. To display a toolbar, press ALT and then SHIFT+F10.).
If a header or footer has been defined for a previous section in the document, click Link to Previous on the Header and Footer toolbar to break the connection between the header or footer in the current section and the previous section.
If there's already text in the header or footer that you don't want, delete the text before inserting the page number.
On the Insert menu, click Page Numbers.
Click Format.
In the Start at box, enter 1.
Start page numbering with a number other than 1
For example, you can number pages without a break in numbering between multiple documents by numbering the first document 1 through 20 and the second document 21 through 40.
Click in the section (section: A portion of a document in which you set certain page formatting options. You create a new section when you want to change such properties as line numbering, number of columns, or headers and footers.) in which you want to change the starting page number.
On the Insert menu, click Page Numbers.
Click Format.
In the Start at box, enter a number.
Restart page numbering with 1 for each chapter or sectionI want to start numbering pages in a MSWord document using page 4 as page one?
When you set up page numbering in MS Word, you can tell it at what point to begin numbering AND what number to start with. Go to the fourth page of your document do do the following:
View menu --%26gt; Header and Footer
Click the ';format page number'; button
Set up the options the way you want them
There should be no problem about doing what you want to do. Good luck!
Write and save them as seperate documents...
You will need to insert a section break between page 3 and page 4.
On the menu, Insert, Break, Section Break Next Page. Once you have the section break in place, insert your page number in the new section. Go to page 4, make sure your cursor is on the page.
Insert, Page Numbers, choose the position and alignment desired. Click the Format button on the Page Numbers dialog box. On the format box that comes up, change the option from 'continue from previous section' to 'start at' and make sure it is set on '1.'
Click on the fourth page. On the insert tab, click on insert page numbers. At the bottom left hand side of the box that comes up is a format button, click on it. Under page numbering click ';start at';, and insert page 1.
