If it's Word you're working with, go to:
File
Page Setup
Layout (tab)
Line Numbers (button on bottom left)
And click off the box on the top
Wait, that's for line numbering that appears on the side . . . are you talking about page numbers, or are you talking about numbering in levels (i.e., Heading, I, a, i, etc.)
