What does it mean if a plain van has numbering/lettering on the roof?Is it an undercover Police van?

I've seen this on a plain red van,and a plain white van! What does it mean if a plain van has numbering/lettering on the roof?Is it an undercover Police van?
It's possible, it could also be other companies using these numbers and lettering for identification reasons. What does it mean if a plain van has numbering/lettering on the roof?Is it an undercover Police van?
Believe me, if it was an undercover police van, the last thing it would have is numbers on the roof, only liveried police vehicles carry roof ID.

It probably belongs to a courier company and is there to aid ID from the Air if stolen.

Many items of plant and farm machinery are now roof-marked for the same reason.
Could be some kind of security van or a valuable load IE Booze or Tobacco, so if it gets high jacked the police can spot it from a helicopter when searching for it.
It's not the Police. It's for identification purposes.
It might be a postcode to aid police helicopters if it is stolen.
Its usually a police vehicle, and its there as an identification for the police helicopter
I have known pivate companies have numbering and lettering on the roofs of white vans!!
Graffiti maybe ?
customs and excise
