Is there a control function in Microsoft Word for numbering a list?

I'd like to be able to highlight a list and then use ctrl+something to number the list. I do this a lot in my work and it would be super-helpful. Or if you know how I can create this function, that would be great too! Thanks!Is there a control function in Microsoft Word for numbering a list?
in 2003, highlight the list, format, bullets and numbering, then choose the numbered tab and then select ok.
