How do I turn on auto-numbering for microsoft word 2007?

Someone used my computer and turned it off, but I can't get it back on. The help menu suggests I go to ';word options';, ';Proofing';, ';auto correct options';, and check the ';automatic numbered list'; box on the autoformat as you type tab. I have done this, but it still doesn't work. What else do I have to do?How do I turn on auto-numbering for microsoft word 2007?
Click on the Insert Tab


and you will see a Page Number icon/button on the ribbon
