How can I define a custom numbering style in Word 2007?

I am writing a report that has two sections; A and B. In each section I need to have numbering- 1.1, 2, 3.7 etc. I want to prefix the numbering with a letter such that I have A1, A1.6, A3.7, B1, B5.3 to identify the different sections but I am unsure how to do this. Can any one point me in the right direction? Thank you.How can I define a custom numbering style in Word 2007?
Absolutely you can.

Go to the Home tab, to the Paragraph section.

Find the Numbering button in the top row.

Whenever you see a small down arrowhead to the right of the button, that gives you more options.

So don't click on the actual Numbering button, but click on the down arrowhead to the right of it to bring up a drop down menu with more options.

And select ';Define New Number Format'; at the bottom of the menu.

The Define New Number Format panel comes up.

In the Number format text box, you should see a ';1.'; in gray. That's the autonumbering field, so don't delete that. If you want to change the ';1.'; style, you can select something else from the ';Number Style'; selection box.

Move your mouse cursor before the ';1.'; and type in the prefix you want. You should see what the results will look like in the Preview area.

Then click OK to set the changes. How can I define a custom numbering style in Word 2007?
try the following,

1: go to start--run--(type) winword. ms word will open

2: at the top middle portion you'll have the paragraph tab (next to the font) tab.

3: inside the paragraph tab click the tab option that says multilevel list

4: inside the multilevel list you''ll find the option define new list or multilevel list.

5: select it and create your own customized bullets.
