Can you help me with this numbering of surahs and verses?

Many of the verses you see here on the net or anywhere else has these nubers at the end. For example, 39:23- is 39 the nuber of urah as in surah 39 and verse 23 is it the other way around?Can you help me with this numbering of surahs and verses?
39 is the Number of Surah (Chapter),and 23 is the Verse of this Surah (Chapter)
