Its actually gap numbering not line numbering so that way they can number plays so everyone knows which hole the ball is going through.Who created the offensive line numbering system in american football?
Code for the holes so that when the Coach or QB or anyone calls for a play, instead of saying ';hit the left hole in between the guard and the center';, they will just say hit the A gap, or whole number one.
