Can someone please explain to me the house numbering system of American homes?

Why so many digits? Is it to make each house number unique within it's zip code?Can someone please explain to me the house numbering system of American homes?
well the more houses, the more digits,Can someone please explain to me the house numbering system of American homes?
As a general rule Numbers start a some determined ';center of a city. The numbers get larger the farther you go from center. Even numbers on the North %26amp; East sides of the streets.
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30...............get the picture.
It depends on where you live.
There is no system. Some areas use 2 or 3 digit house numbers and others use 4 or 5 digits house numbers.
