How does the numbering system in baseball work, i.e. a 4-6-3 out?

It's based on scoring shorthand ... before we ubergeeks sat at laptops ... people would get a scorecard and actually have a shorthand system that they could follow every pitch of every game.

You're right one is the pitcher ... two is then the catcher ... three is first base ... and so on across the position players. From your short hand, 4-6-3 would be a ball hit directly to the second baseman who threw it to the shortstop covering second and then the shortstop threw it over to the first baseman for a double play.

I attached a link to a website that tells you how to actually score a game. If you want to watch every moment and see the game unfold, this is one of the best ways to do it.How does the numbering system in baseball work, i.e. a 4-6-3 out?
shortstop_410 is correct...six is a shortstop, five is the third baseman.

1=pitcher

2=catcher

3=first baseman

4=second baseman

5=third baseman

6=shortstop

7=left fielder

8=center fielder

9=right fielderHow does the numbering system in baseball work, i.e. a 4-6-3 out?
If you go to a game, pick up a program. There is usally a scorecard in there with instuctions.

Everytime I go to a game I always keep score. It's fun.
1-2-3 strikes your out at the old ball GAAAAAMMMEEEE!!!!!!!!
1=pitcher, 2=catcher, 3=first base, 4=second base, 5=shortstop, 6=third base, 7=right field, 8=ceenter field, 9=left field. and 4-6-3 means second baseman throws it to the third baseman, then throws it to the first baseman for an out.
4 Wins...6 losses...3 ties?

I dont even like baseball.
every position has a number ...i.e.. pitcher 1 catcher 2 first base 3 and so on...
Double play ground ball to (4)2nd base flips it to (6)shortstop at second , shortstop to (3)first base that completes a 4,6,3 double play

1pitcher,2catcher,3first,4second,5thir鈥?the reason for short being 6 is because they are going 1st base 2nd and 3rd then short
